Firmware Embedded Software Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The role of Road Ready Firmware/Embedded Software Engineer will support the growth of the Road Ready product.  

Specific duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment 
  • Design, develop, code, test and debug telematic system software 
  • Review code and design 
  • Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources 
  • Integrate and validate new product designs 
  • Support software QA and optimize I/O performance 
  • Provide post-production support 
  • Interface with hardware design and development 
  • Assess third party and open-source software 

REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer
  • Engineering or related field 3-5 years of firmware design & development 
  • Working experience with embedded processors from ST Microelectronics and PIC 
  • Hands-on coding experience in RTOS (FreeRTOS) 
  • Experience in multi-threaded embedded system concepts, including tasks, priorities, deadlocks…etc. 
  • Proficient in Embedded C 
  • Able to understand electrical schematics and debug electrical boards 
  • Experience in configuring embedded interfaces: DMA/UART/SPI/I2C/GPIO/ADC…etc. 
  • Experience with developing drivers for a wide variety of embedded peripherals 
  • Experience with interface to 802.15.4 RF, Bluetooth BLE, Wifi, GPS and LTE Cellular modules 
  • Experience with code debugging using JTAG and SWD tools 
  • Experience with GIT/JIRA 
  • Experience in telematics industry and telematics products development is a plus

R & D Electrical Design Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Primary Function Summary: 
  
The position reports to the Research & Development group, the primary function of the position investigation and development of technologies that have applicable value to technology roadmaps developed for future Clarience Technologies product lines.    
  
The research and investigation would include device compatible hardware to operate in a commercial heavy-duty environment.   The device design would require using various communication protocols for the sensory device then broadcasting to a collecting data device that has cellular functionality.    
  
Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Collaborates with the firmware, thermal, optical, and mechanical engineers as the electrical hardware is being designed to a product definition.   
  • Incorporates into the electrical designs, considerations for data and messaging, thermal and optical requirements, and/or mechanical specifications of a known industry challenge, safety concerns, or fleet operational in-efficiencies.   
  • All electrical devices designed will operate in a heavy-duty transportation environment. 
  • Develops project statements for a technology definition for a specific application that would involve a device revision or a new application technology.  May need to work with program/project manager for clear technology definition of the application.  
  • Works with the specific project manager to determine the available technology matrix and match the application and technology for most cost-effective solution(s). 
  • Presents ‘proof of concepts’ designs to the team that demonstrates a technology for a given problem definition. Concepts will carry a concept DFMEA identifying the potential failure modes. 
  • Develops an alpha and beta testing plan for the device hardware.   
  • Construct a stress testing plan for the electrical hardware during the validation testing in the form of a DVP&R. 
  • System-level integration experience. 
  • Design for manufacturing appropriate hardware. 
  • Experience reading electrical schematics. 
    • Experience with RTOS/Linux  
    • Microcontroller at an embedded level programing.  Familiarity with C, C++, Python but not required. 
    • Experience with hardware lab equipment such as oscilloscope digital scope and logic analyzer. 
  • Technical document writing experience using Visio, Word, Excel, and / or PowerPoint, this person must have the ability to communicate technologies discovered in the form of a white paper.  This paper will be used as a technical training document.   
  • Revision and document control experience 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 
  • Working on Advanced Certificate of Master’s in electrical engineering discipline, preferred  

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S): 

  • 3+ years of experience in hardware design preferred.  
  • 3+ years of experience in circuit design development. 
    • CADD-Altium related circuit and schematic design 
    • Embedded software resources with RTOS/Linux  
    • Understanding of CANBus and SAE J1939 standards/protocols 
    • Embedded system architect to define system from micro to cloud server level. 
    • High end microprocessor (GHz speed) engineering  
    • Development of mobile and cellular base communication using Bluetooth protocol to sensory devices utilizing multiple protocols from network hardware partnerships.  
  • Manufacturing printed circuit board experience. 
  • Understand functionality of the system to provide better hardware abstraction layers 
  • Maintains up-to-date job knowledge by way of attendance at seminars, visits to customers, trade journals and personal study time.

  • Extensive experience with structural, thermal and fluid dynamic calculations and their finite element simulations for the optimization of products.
  • Experience stepping through an assembly and calculating stack-up and fit tolerances.
  • Excellent analytical problem solving skills where problems are very unusual and challenging.

  • Knowledge of commercially available adhesives and coatings.
  • A working knowledge of commonly available plastic resins and casting metal alloys (in particular, aluminum and stainless steel) and the advantages, limitations, and disadvantages of each.
  • Experience in shop trades (machining and general fabrication/modeling of metal, wood, plastic, etc) and a willingness to utilize these skills in the generation of physical proof-of-concept prototypes and models.
  • Familiarity with modeling and prototyping processes, equipment and techniques such as SLA/SLS/FDM, CNC machining, resin casting, etc.
  • Experience working in a very fast paced, responsive, deadline oriented environment.
