JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer I is responsible for the design, development, documentation, test, and evaluation activities for components, sub-assemblies, and finished goods products that meet the cost, performance and timeliness requirements defined within ESG’s Product Planning Process (P3 Process). This person will be tasked to investigate, develop, and implement new technologies, tools and processes, and must solve problems through original thinking and ingenuity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
- Design & develop products, assemblies & components that meet or exceed ESG’s stringent quality, cost, performance & schedule requirements.
- Creating new vehicle-specific parts and test fitting parts onto cars, trucks, and other vehicles.
- Ability to disassemble and measure vehicles with hand tools or use of 3D scanner.
- Ability to fit check parts onto various vehicles/applications.
- Support Label Modification projects as defined within ESG’s P3 Processes.
- Review & approve mechanical & finished goods drawings.
- Write assembly instructions (AI’s), work instructions, and equipment maintenance procedures.
- Develop production jigs, assembly fixtures & crimping tools for domestic & international manufacturing.
- Complete finished goods first article reports (FARs).
- Create Control Plan, Process FMEA, and Process Flow Diagram & PPAP documentation.
- Perform finished goods product verification, qualification & validation testing.
- Incorporate fundamentals of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Key contributor in developing & maintaining detailed & accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Approved Vendor Lists (AVLs) for sub-assemblies & finished goods products.
- Key contributor in ensuring integrity of mechanical design & product development processes.
- Analyze, evaluate, and recommend system improvements that will reduce product design cycle times.
- Quickly resolve engineering & technical issues.
- Facilitate consistent and predictable alarm & light production, including outsourcing PCA testers, light output testers, flash rate testers, speaker sweep stations & alarm test boxes.
- Participate in Component Part Qualification (CPQ) process for speakers, drivers, LEDs & mechanical parts.
- Actively participate in ESG’s Change Request (CR/ECN/DCN) process.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- B.S.M.E. degree, or equivalent experience.
- SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software) training or experience (modeling, assembly, and drawing creation).
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, e.g. ability to prepare, present and discuss project-related plans, requirements, test results, etc. in a team-based work environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Project (intermediate skill level preferred in Excel).
Desired
- SolidWorks surfacing modeling, sheet metal design & modeling for injection molding. Experience with SolidWorks Simulation is also a plus.
- Experience working in an install bay, upfitting vehicles or installing aftermarket parts/electronics onto vehicles.
- Experience using a manual mill, lathe, drill press, bandsaw, and other shop tools.
- Experience rapid prototyping parts, fixtures & products, both subtractive (CNC) & additive (grown).
- Understanding of industry document control practices & ability to adhere to ESG’s documentation processes.
- Experience or good understanding of optical design for LEDs.
- Good understanding of LED, speaker & driver theories of operation.
- Good understanding of electrical & electronic systems & components.

The role of Road Ready Firmware/Embedded Software Engineer will support the growth of the Road Ready product.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment
- Design, develop, code, test and debug telematic system software.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
- 3-5 years of firmware design & development
- Working experience with embedded processors from ST Microelectronics and Microchip PIC families
- Hands-on coding experience in RTOS (FreeRTOS)
- Experience in multi-threaded embedded system concepts, including tasks, priorities, deadlocks…etc.
- Proficient in Embedded C and clean coding principles
- Able to understand electrical schematics and debug electrical boards
- Experience in configuring embedded interfaces: DMA/UART/SPI/I2C/GPIO/ADC…etc.
- Experience with developing drivers for a wide variety of embedded peripherals
- Experience with interface to 802.15.4 RF, Bluetooth BLE, Wifi, GPS and LTE Cellular modules
- Experience with code debugging using JTAG and SWD tools

The Firmware Engineer II is primarily responsible for designing, developing, and testing firmware for high-volume electronic products in the vehicle emergency and safety industry that meet cost, performance, cybersecurity, regulatory, and schedule requirements. This role contributes to innovative product development through cross-functional collaboration, supports sustaining engineering and field issue resolution, and applies current engineering practices including data-driven development, automated verification, and responsible use of AI-assisted tools to improve firmware quality, test coverage, and development efficiency.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions
- Firmware design, coding, test, and documentation for microcontroller-based products, following ESG’s product development processes.
- Help develop functional specifications and detailed design documentation for new products, working within an Agile/Scrum framework.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to estimate schedules and deliver development tasks.
- Develop and execute detailed test plans to ensure systems meet functional, performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement of product development processes.
- Maintain and follow proper design processes for high-reliability, secure firmware, including traceability, code reviews, and defect prevention practices.
- Analyze and resolve field problems; perform root cause analysis and determine corrective and preventive actions.

- Contribute to development of embedded features that interface with AI-enabled systems, sensors, or edge analytics where applicable, including support for data capture, telemetry, model integration requirements, and real-time constraints.
- Help define verification approaches for AI-adjacent firmware behavior, including testability, performance monitoring, fail-safe behavior, and robustness in safety-relevant operating conditions.

Qualifications to Succeed
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience in analysis, design, coding, and testing C/C++ code for embedded systems used in commercial applications.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Experience designing with serial networks and embedded communications protocols (e.g., RS485, CAN, LIN).
- Strong understanding of hardware and proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and DMMs.
- Advanced debugging and troubleshooting techniques for embedded systems.
- Willingness to learn and grow with input from other team members while following coding standards and engineering best practices.
- Experience with version control systems, defect tracking systems, and static source code analysis tools.
