Electrical Engineer Intern


JOB SUMMARY:

Electrical engineer intern is responsible for learning to design, develop, test, and evaluate new products or enhancements to existing products that meet cost, performance and schedule requirements defined within ESG’s Product Planning Process. Additional activities include investigating, developing, and implementing new technologies, tools, and processes. This engineer works with other skilled engineers on cross-functional teams to meet project deadlines and drive business innovation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualize, design, document, build, test and evaluate new products, enhancements to existing products, or product cost reductions, with emphasis on digital and analog circuits and assemblies and associated software to meet the performance, cost and scheduling requirements as defined by the project team and the company’s goals
  • Integrate subassemblies (mechanical and electrical) into prototype units
  • Coordinate continuing product development, testing, system verification, and validation, throughout the development process and production
  • Fabricate PCA prototypes, conduct prototype testing, and create reporting and documentation of test results
  • Develop FMEA documentation as part of project team deliverables
  • Assist in the preparation of design-to specifications required for the purchase of components or completed assemblies and participate in product cost down activities 
  • Prepare necessary electrical files using Altium, including circuit schematics, PCB layouts, and Gerber files. 
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve product nonconformance issues
  • Implement product and process improvement/cost reduction initiatives via ESG’s Non-Conformance/Corrective Action and Engineering Change processes
  • Help prepare instruction and technical manuals required for the project and supplies information required by Marketing for the preparation of catalogs and advertising documents
  • Provide technical support to other departments and end-users concerning issues encountered during installation, use or malfunction of a product
  • Perform other job-related duties as needed to support achievement of business objectives

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • In the process of completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic knowledge of digital and analog circuitry (design, test, troubleshooting)
  • Basic knowledge of switching power supply design
  • Basic knowledge of Schematic and PCB layout software
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare, present and discuss project-related topics with people at various levels within the organization
  • Basic knowledge of EMC, RFI, visible light, LEDs, speakers, and audio energy

Desired

  • Familiarity with Bluetooth Low Energy and wireless communications
  • Working knowledge of Microchip, Atmel, and Cypress firmware development tools
  • Acoustic, speaker, and sound system design experience
  • Optic, LED, and lighting system design experience
  • Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) software (Enterprise experience preferred), including GitHub
  • Basic knowledge of microcontroller firmware design/coding (various chipsets/languages including, Assembly, C, Visual Studio and Java)
