DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential

  • Conceptualize, design, document, build, test and evaluate new products, enhancements to existing products, or product cost reductions, with emphasis on digital and analog circuits and assemblies and associated software to meet the performance, cost and scheduling requirements as defined by the project team and the company’s goals.
  • Integrate subassemblies (mechanical and electrical) into prototype units.  Fabricate PCA prototypes.  Coordinate continuing product development, test, system verification, and validation, throughout the development process and into production release.  Test PCA’s & finished goods.  Document test results via first article & developmental test reports.  Develop Design FMEA as part of project team deliverables.  
  • May assist in the preparation of design-to specifications required for the purchase of components or completed assemblies.  Actively participates in product cost down activities.  
  • Prepare necessary electrical files using Altium, including circuit schematics, PCB layouts & gerber files.
  • Write low level, non-production firmware (C, etc.).  
  • Resolve product nonconformance issues; implement product and process improvement/cost reduction initiatives via ESG’s Non-Conformance/Corrective Action and Engineering Change processes.
  • May prepare instruction and technical manuals required for the project and supplies information required by Marketing for the preparation of catalogs and advertising documents.
  • Provides technical support to Manufacturing, Production, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Sales, Customers & end-users concerning issues encountered during installation, use or malfunction of a product.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed to support ESG’s Mission Statement and Company Goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • B.S.E.E. or equivalent electrical/electronic based technical degree.
  • Seven (7) or more years practical Electrical Engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of digital and analog circuitry (design, test, troubleshooting).
  • Extensive knowledge of microcontroller firmware design/coding (various chipsets/languages including, but not limited to Assembly, C, Visual Studio and Java).  
  • Working knowledge of switching power supply design and PCB layout, including buck, boost, buck-boost, and SEPIC.  
  • Working knowledge microprocessor firmware development tools.  
  • Working knowledge of Schematic and PCB layout software.  
  • Experience designing EMC compliant circuits, and reducing RFI from electronics.  
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; e.g., the ability to prepare, present and discuss project related plans, schedules, requirements, test results, etc. in a team based work environment.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, procedures, and measurement of EMC, RFI, visible light, LED’s, speakers, and audio energy.  
  • Working knowledge of ARM-core microcontrollers.  
  • Five (5) or more years of experience using Altium (or equivalent) - intermediate to advanced skill level.  
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills

Desired

  • Familiarity with Bluetooth Low Energy and wireless communications.  
  • Proficiency in BUS architecture, CAN, J1939, OBD, LIN and serial communication protocols.  
  • Experience with ISO-TP.  
  • Working knowledge Microchip, Atmel & Cypress firmware development tools.  
  • Working knowledge MS SQL Server & Access, VB.Net, and Adobe Flash.  
  • Acoustic, speaker, and sound system design experience.  
  • Optic, LED, and lighting system design experience.  
  • Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) software (Enterprise experience preferred), including GitHub.  
  • Experience coding in Assembly and/or C (intermediate skill level), Visual Studio and/or Java (C preferred).
