Job Summary
The Controller is primarily responsible for assisting with the finance and accounting functions of the organization, including the preparation of financial analyses, interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, budget preparation, oversight of the AR/AP teams, and related reporting for the guidance of management.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions
- Lead the functions of the accounting team including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, and budgeting and forecasting.
- Complete accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets.
- Provide management with accurate, timely, and relevant financial and production data and analysis necessary for decision making.
- Actively participate with key leaders in the formulation, financial evaluation, and recommendation of operational or business initiatives.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting and finance team to drive the performance of the business, and not simply ‘keep the books”, i.e., upgrade talent, develop career paths, build and maintain higher performing teams, and provide timely performance feedback.
- Oversee all company general ledgers and reporting and coordinate all consolidated reporting.
- Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Oversee preparation of budgets, review budget proposals, provide necessary supporting documentation and justification for presentation and approval by parent company; monitor compliance throughout the year and work with senior management team to implement spending changes as necessary to meet annual plan.
- Prepare, evaluate, and recommend to senior management and/or parent company capital expenditures; oversee and maintain proper control over all company capital assets.
- Establish and maintain a sound system of internal controls and operational processes in accordance with corporate guidelines; ensure effectiveness and efficiency of same.
- Provide ongoing support to the organization in such areas as insurance, audit, income taxes, corporate finance, regulatory reporting, banking, cash management, mergers and acquisitions.
- Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications to Succeed
- · Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- · Minimum of 5 years of related experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in a manufacturing environment; experience in public accounting preferred.
- · Thorough knowledge of technical and professional principles of accounting, finance, income taxes, and manufacturing costing.
- · Proficient experience working with an integrated ERP system.
- · Proven ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- · Strong leadership skills, including the ability to train, develop, and evaluate performance of team.
- · Ability to accumulate and analyze detailed information, identify trends/root cause, and recommend and implement changes; ability to critically review and guide team members in similar analyses.
- · Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- · Ability to consistently meet deadlines and lead team members to successfully do the same.
