Operations Team Leader
Job Summary
The Operations Team Leader is primarily responsible for overseeing daily operations on the production floor in a light assembly manufacturing environment. This role ensures safety, quality, efficiency, and team productivity while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, this role supports the activities of the production line, including overseeing workflow, labor assignments, and ensuring schedules are executed. The Team Leader supports scheduling by assuring production drawings are accurate and can be produced as ordered, as well as sets up production drawing packets to be released to the production floor. The ideal candidate will lead by example, providing guidance, training, and support to team members to meet production targets and maintain a safe and organized workplace.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions
- Supervise, support, and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the production team members; respond to the needs of the team members by ensuring parts and materials are supplied on time, absenteeism coverage plans are in place, and training/cross-training is conducted for team members
- Coordinate the startup of the shift by communicating daily production requirements to meet production goals; monitor production schedules and adjust resources as needed to meet daily targets.
- Operate within, uphold, and enforce safety policies within the organization; report potential safety hazards and assist in resolution
- Establish standard work procedures and ensure team members follow the SOPs; provide instruction and follow-up on the use of the proper methods of performing work assignments.
- Perform root cause analysis on quality issues and implement countermeasures to reduce the possibility of the issue occurring moving forward
- Submit maintenance work orders to ensure the facility and equipment are in safe operating condition
- Support and resolve BOM discrepancies and other inventory control activities
- Facilitate small group activities focusing on continuous improvement activities
- Keep production scheduled and communicate order issues
- Identify and escalate operational issues and recommend process improvements
- Maintain accurate records of production data, attendance, incidents, and performance metrics
- Ensure 5S principles and lean manufacturing practices are upheld on the shop floor
- Act as a liaison between the production team and management, fostering a culture of open communication and collaboration
- Assist in developing and tracking KPIs for the department, focusing on safety, quality, cost, delivery, and people
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications to Succeed
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment, including at least 1 year of supervisory/leadership experience
- General mechanical ability and/or maintenance experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of production processes, safety standards, and quality control
- Ability to obtain thorough product knowledge
- Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate information and ideas in a direct manner
