R & D Systems Project/ Design Engineer


Responsibilities:

Primary Function Summary:

The position reports to the Research & Development group with the primary function of the position as project management and design of solutions and technologies that have applicable value to technology roadmaps for future Clarience Technologies product lines.  Combine industry experience with technical knowledge/expertise to coordinate systems solutions across multiple business unit product lines for customer and field validation.  Project manage specific R&D technology validation through scope development, discovery, concept design, validation and technology transfer to BU’s.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities of a cross-functional team for developing scope of R&D projects using but not limited to industry trends and voice of customer.
  • Assure that projects are completed on time, to budget, and meet customer expectations – internal and external. 
  • Lead efforts to resolve all issues related to design, performance, compliance, manufacturability, and/or quality resulting from technology validation process.
  • Serve as a primary technical interface for customers as well as internal Sales & Marketing personnel for R&D projects. 
  • Continuously analyze technology trends and integrate latest technology into project solutions.
  • Support interdisciplinary engineering/technical interactions with outside contractors and internal engineering resources.  Interdisciplinary engineering fields include but are not limited to Electrical, Firmware, Software, Plastics and Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Support travel requirements to customers (OEM, fleets, partners, etc.) and provide technical support to the commercial group, as needed. 
  • Coordinate and execute POC and prototype builds of solutions along with lab testing, field installations and field testing.
  • Conduct technology transfer of R&D projects in form of presentations and white papers.
  • Coordinate R&D projects with universities and external technology partners.
  • Execute CAD modeling for POC’s and prototypes which support R&D projects.
  • Actively participate in industry associations such but not limited to TMC and SAE.
  • Execute IP landscape review during technology application development process for freedom to operate and potential patent prosecution.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Working on Advanced Certificate of Master’s in engineering discipline, a plus

Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in heavy duty and medium duty industries.
  • CAD proficiency.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of electrical design and systems.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of connected devices both wired and wireless.

Travel Requirements:

  • The person in this role will be required to travel 20-25% of the time annually.
